A new mental hospital module is proposed near to the Príncipe de Asturias Hospital (Alcalá de Henares, Madrid).
The common existent psychiatrics are characterized by a dehumanization and a lack of concern about each individual person. Current buildings don’t take into consideration how spaces affect this kind of patients.
A detailed studio about how shapes, colors, textures and measurements affect patients with main mental illness is carried out. In this way, the intention is to adequate the spaces to improve results during their treatments.
Also, doctors, patients and visitors' circulations are analyzed. The new configuration is executed thinking about every user's movements.
Finally, the integration of greenery plays an important role in the equation. Interior gardens are added to the different level modules, so that patients could get benefits by the contact with nature. The main innovation in the building is a vegetable patch, where patients individually or with their families could have different activities. This is a new tool which has shown results improving mental health for people.
